Apr 9, 2008. #8. I bought some electrical sensitive equipment from overseas which runs. on 220v. I tried to run it on 240v in Australia and some of the. resistors have been burned. I know it will damage the equipment to run. on 240v but cannot find a transformer to convert from 240v to 220v.
I am running two feed motors,1/2 and 3/4hp, and a 3hp spindle motor on a 440 only mill that has 440V VFDs to drive the feeds. I am running a 5hp rotary converter to get to 220V three phase, then going to a 15KVA step up transformer to get to 440. Nine years, no problems.
Because it is three-phase, 208V is more efficient than 220V. 208V needs more wires because it is three-phase. However, the wires have a smaller diameter. Even though 220V uses fewer wires, the conductors are thicker. It is worth noting that, unlike 220V (which is solely single-phase), 240V can be three-phase. 5). 208V Single-Phase VS Three-PhaseWill a 240V dryer work on 220V? Most electric dryers are rated at 240 volt. Any appliance that is rated for 240 volts can also be used on a 220V or 208V outlet. Is it OK to plug 230v to 220V? Many appliances are designed with swings in voltage in mind. From 200v to around 250, most appliances are fine. … Is it OK to plug 110v to 220v?

Sorted by: 1. Realistically the only reason it is dangerous is because someone might accidentally plug in a 120 V appliance in a 220 V outlet (in the US, I mean). The insulation and everything is fine. The clearances of the connectors are fine. The only reason NEMA 6-15 and 6-20 plugs have the blades in a different direction is to make sureye7HzN1.
