Cars like the Mitsubishi ASX aren’t meant to be memorable or outstanding in any particular field. They’re meant for people who desire nothing more than a reliable, reasonably practical, safe and comfortable daily driver, with enough luggage space for a school run and some shopping.

The ASX is known as a reliable car that is cheap to buy and cheap to run. It does nothing exceedingly well, and it does nothing exceedingly poorly. Test drive one if you can, if you say 'that will do me' afterwards, buy one. Or at least put your name on the waiting list.

The Mitsubishi ASX range comes with only one engine choice - a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol four-cylinder that produces 110kW of power at 6000rm and 197Nm of torque at 4200rpm. Ride comfort is good and the suppression of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) works well and was further improved with the 2012 makeover.
